| WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009 The Burbs (1989) This is one of my favorite comedies from the 1980's and for good reason I tell you. I've grown up in the burbs all my life and I know very well what it's like to have noisy neighbors. anyways, this movie stars Tom Hanks (Bachelor Party, Money Pit) as Ray, a normal suburbanite who decides to take a one week vacation and gets into a whole lot of trouble. Ray gets weird neighbors who move in next door and gets the whole neighborhood in a frenzy as they move in unexpectedly. With the help of his neighbors played by Bruce Dern (HBO's Big Love), Rick Ducommum (Spaceballs), and Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys, License To Drive) suspect that their new weird neighbors have murdered another neighbor of theirs, Walter. So they all decide to investigate the neighbors despite the fact their wives think they're crazy. Carrie Fisher (Star Wars Trilogy) plays Hanks and Wendy Schaal (American Dad) plays Derns irresistible looking wife in this comedy of why the Burbs can be a royal pain in the you know what! so rent it and enjoy Tom Hanks before he went serious. It Stars Robert Sean Leonard (House (TV series)) who plays Jeremy, a normal kid from the burbs of Houston, Who happens to get bitten by a very beautiful Cecilia Peck, who happens to be a vampire herself. So the movie is him dealing with all these changes, being chased by a vampire killer and his idiot sidekick and trying to deal with the girl he likes played by Cheryl Pollack. It's a good movie, not the greatest but a movie worth renting if your into 80's movies. (1986) This was a funny little movie back in the day and it featured three greats of American comedy in the 1980's. The Movie Starred Steve Martin (The Jerk, Roxanne), Chevy Chase (National Lampoon Movies, Caddyshack), and Martin Short (Innerspace, Clifford) as three guys who are actors and portray these singing heros. The only problem is that these people in Mexico believe that they are real heroes and summon the three amigos to rescue there town from an evil outlaw named El Guapo (played by Alfonso Arau). The movie also stars a beautiful Patrice Martinez, who plays Carmen, the girl that summons them to save the village. The other problem is the amigos think there going down to Mexico to give a performance, but wake up to a rude awakening. Rent it and find out how the boys do. The movie also stars Jon Lovitz, Tony Plana, Phil Hartman, a very hot Rebecca Ferratti, and Joe Mantegna. Three Out Of Five Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 2:56 PM 0 COMMENTS THURSDAY, MAY 7, 2009 Dragnet (1987) This movie isn't probably as good as the show, but i think it's decent enough. This movie stars Dan Aykroyd as the nephew of Joe Friday of I believe the TV Series and what a coincidence that his name is Joe Friday. He is a straight laced by the book, anal retentive Sgt trying to solve a case when a group called The Pagans are running the city amok. He is partnered with Tom Hanks, who plays Pep Streebeck, a womanizing, not so by the book cop trying to help Joe solve the case. Together, these two try to solve the case despite running into a lot of trouble on the way. This movie also stars Alexandra Paul, who i always thought was an OK actress, Christopher Plummer as the Reverend, and Dabney Coleman, who plays a Larry Flynt type character who owns a smut magazine. Two and the Half Stars Out Of Five POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 11:16 AM 0 COMMENTS WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 2009 Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) One of the ultimate movies to ever come out of the 1980's and is ultimately the movie Matthew Broderick will always be remembered for. He stars as Ferris Bueller, a kid who you can call a slacker but a very cool slacker. All Ferris wants to do is skip school and hang out with his best friend Cameron and girlfriend Sloan. Sloan is played By Mia Sara, who just come off a decent role with Tom Cruise in Legend and is very hot in this movie. His best friend Cameron is played by Alan Ruck whose claim to fame has been this movie and has only managed to be in Spin City before being replaced by Charlie Sheen. Cameron's character is a very interesting one in the fact that he is a hypochrondiac and a very depressed individual. Unlike Ferris, who is optimistic and full of life, these two mesh very well in this movie. It's an all out adventure in the city Of Chicago and you may notice one Jennifer Grey (Red Dawn, Dirty Dancing) as Ferris's sister Jeanie, who tries her best to catch Ferris and get him into the trouble she feels he deserves. Also in this movie stars Charlie Sheen briefly at the end as kid at the police station who convinces her to give up and live life. Rent this movie and catch the ride of laughter that follows. Five Out Of Five Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 12:56 PM 0 COMMENTS TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2009 Summer School (1987) A great movie starring a lot of today and yesterdays stars and a movie very synonymous with the 80's. It stars Mark Hamon (NCIS) as Mr. Freddy Shoop, a slacking PE teacher who was selected to teach a bunch of vagabonds in summer school. He falls in love with the teacher who teaches next to his class played by a good looking Kirstie Alley (Cheers, Jenny Craig Commercials) who is dating the vice principle played by Robin Thomas (Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael). Robin's character is blackmailing Mr. Shoop and forcing him to have all the kids pass the English exam or he is fired. Now the people who play the students are a good batch of actors whose heyday was the nineties except for one person and that's Shawnee Smith who rekindled her career in the early 21st century starring in the Saw Movies. In this film, she plays the pregnant girl named Rhonda and ends up dating Patrick Labyorteaux's character Kevin (The football jock). The movie stars Courtney Thorn-Smith who starred in Melrose Place and Dean Cameron who went on to smaller roles in the nineties. Those two's rise to fame was in the early nineties but i especially love Cameron's character Chainsaw in this film because of his love of Horror movies. To Me, he makes this movie along with Harmon's Mr. Shoop. Now watch all the crazy fun these bunch of slackers have on the beach and at school. Look out especially for the hottest Argentine import Fabiana Udenio who plays the foreign exchange student because she's really hot in this film. So go out and rent the flick and find out how the kids do on their test. Four Out of Five Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 2:24 PM 0 COMMENTS SUNDAY, MAY 3, 2009 Adventures In Babysitting (1987) This movie is all around fun from the very get go. It stars a beautiful as always Elisabeth Shue (Karate Kid, Back To The Future)as the babysitter Chris, Anthony Rapp (Dazed And Confused, School Ties) in his very first role as the best friend Daryl, Maia Brewton as the little Sara who is obsessed with Thor, and Keith Coogan (Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead) who plays Sara's brother Brad, who is also overly obsessed with Chris. The movie starts off as Chris is getting ready for a big date with her boyfriend until he cancels on her. Now, what is she to do with her night? she gets a call to babysit the Anderson's and she accepts the job. Now, after getting settled with the Anderson's, she gets a call from her friend Brenda(Played by Penelope Ann Miller), who has run away from home and is trapped in the big city of Chicago with no money. so Chris and the gang set out on an adventure you'll be laughing about all night. This movie also has a great Blues soundtrack if you are into that sort of music. Now Debra Hills name is attached to this movie and she is synonymous with the Halloween series and i was surprised to see that. Three and the Half Out Of Five Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 7:44 AM 0 COMMENTS FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2009 Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982) One of the most ultimate and greatest movies to ever come out period. One of Sean Penn's greatest roles as Jeff Spicoli (The stoner) and one of the great characters of the movie. This movie has so many stars of today that it's ridiculous. This movie stars Judge Reinhold and Jennifer Jason Leigh as brother and sister, Phoebe Cates as the hot friend Linda, Forest Whitaker as the Bad A** football player, Robert Romanus as the sneaky Mike Damone, and Brian Backer as Mark Ratner. I could go on forever because there are way too many names to name, but we'll end it there. This movie follows all those characters and their teenage struggles that take place at simple locations: The Mall, Stacy's house, and school. This movie deals with teenage angst at it's best and most frightening. The movie deals with teenage pregnancy, dope, and so much more while still giving classic lines for us to remember for decades. The movie was written by Cameron Crowe and directed by Amy Heckerling. Do yourself a favor and rent this. Five Out Of Five Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 11:01 AM 0 COMMENTS Three O'Clock High (1987) Three O'Clock High is one of my favorite movies that came out in the 1980's. It stars Casey Siemaszko (Stand By Me, Back To The Future I and II) as Jerry Mitchell, who is kind of a nerd, that just had the worst day of his life. A friend comes up to Jerry and suggests that he interview the new kid in school (whose causing quite a stir in rumor ville) named Buddy Revell. You see, Buddy has been kicked out of every school because he doesn't like people touching him and there is a different version of his story from every student. Of course, playing Buddy is Richard Tyson (Kindergarten Cop) in his very first movie role. Now, we'll talk about the fun stuff and that is Jerry approaches Buddy in the bathroom and makes the mistake of touching his shoulder. Then, Buddy tells him that they are going to fight at Three O'clock and that there is no use running. So, go out and rent the movie and find out what steps Jerry takes. Danny always has schemes up his sleeve and believes his friends and him can fix it up. The only problem is a chemical company wants the land as well so they could dump chemicals into it. So, the company hires a guy who is the head of the town council to give these kids a hard time. He is succeeding at doing so and just when Danny and his friends are about to give up, they get a break. This movie stars a very young and beautiful Marisa Tomei and Harold Gould, who are the only notable stars of the movie. The rest of the cast did little or nothing significant after this movie. Too bad too, Danny's love interest Chloe(Played by Mary B Ward) was great and I believe she too was very pretty. The boys head in and get double crossed by the owner Porky himself (Chuck Mitchell), when he promises them girls and instead dumps them in the water and takes their money. This movie also stars a young Kim Cattrall as a gym assistant that howls like Lassie and plenty of other hot scenes. so rent it and find out if ther boys get their revenge or not on Porky. 4 Stars out Of 5 POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 7:16 AM 0 COMMENTS FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2009 The Last American Virgin (1982) What can I say about this one. well, for starters, it's actually a really good movie and has some key points to it besides the tons of sex that occurs. Believe me there's everything in this movie from a penis measuring contest, a hooker with crabs, a Spanish woman who wants to have sex with pizza delivery boys, etc. The movie does have a point and that is how friends can screw you over when it comes to a girl and don't be an idiot and go out of your way to help that girl. That's what happens to Gary (Lawrence Monoson) who falls in love with Karen (Diane Franklin), but is stolen away by his best friend Rick (Steve Antin). Then rick gets her pregnant and doesn't want to man up, so Gary helps her out in getting an abortion. Now your wondering what happens next right? well go rent it then and remember that this movie was made in the same sense as Fast Times At Ridgemont High, just not as classic. They were made to be funny, but made to have a moral point to it. If your a fan of Bill & Ted's excellent Adventure then you might remember Karen as one of the princesses. 3 Out 5 Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 6:29 PM 0 COMMENTS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22, 2009 Howard The Duck (1986) Nothing says 1980's cheesy quite like Howard The Duck. Don't get that first statement wrong, I loved Howard The Duck as a child and still love it today. It's stars Ed Gale as the physical being named Howard The duck and Chip Zien as the voice. It also stars Lea Thompson (Back To The Future, Red Dawn) as the girl he meets on this planet and falls in love with, Tim Robbins (Tapeheads, The Shawshank Redemption) as a scientist, and Jeffrey Jones (Ferris Buellers Day Off, Beetle Juice) as the other scientist who eventually turns in to the dark lord. Basically Howard gets pulled down to earth by a laser beam experiment that Jones and Robbins had been toying with. They try to help Lea hide Howard from other scientists until a evil life form takes over Jones body. Then Howard is on the fight of his life from then on out. George Lucas produced this movie and I think you should at least give it a try. I felt at first the beginning of the movie was starting too slow and the movie was lame. But, as you keep watching the movie gets better and better. The movie stars Corey Haim and Corey Feldman as best friends who are pretty much burnouts. We see Jason Robards as a man obsessed with trying to figure out dreams. The Two Coreys are always interacting with Robards character and not in a good way either. Until, one day while doing an experiment with his wife, a accident happens and Robards has switched Bodies almost with Feldmans. i say almost because i don't really understand where Robards and his wife go because their physical bodies are in a dream world while robards is trapped in Feldmans. The movie stars Harry Dean Stanton (who seems to be in every 80's movie), Piper Laurie (As Robards Wife), and Meredith Salenger (As Feldmans Love Interest). this movie is a race against time for Robards to get back into his old body (No pun intended) and have his old life back. If you up to it and up for a rocking soundtrack, then rent the movie. Two Out Of Five stars. POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 12:59 PM 0 COMMENTS SUNDAY, APRIL 19, 2009 Private Lessons (1981) This movie if you were to watch it now, you would think this movie is lacking any luster in all departments. It stars Dutch import Sylvia Kristel (Emmanuelle series) as a house keeper who seduces a 15 year old rich kid, whose father is away. Now, if you had asked me when i was a kid entering puberty, I might have liked this movie. She then, decides to pretend she died while having sex with boy to blackmail the child, or else the chauffeur would have her deported. Don't waste your time or money on this one. This movie, obviously about wrestling, teams Roddy Piper with Dirk Benedict (The A-Team), The Very Sexy Tanya Roberts (That 70's Show), and a whole cast of wrestling's most familiar faces including Captain Lou Albano. Dirk Benedict stars as your typical slime ball manager type M. Harry Smilac who is running into some financial trouble when he decides to manage Roddy Piper and his tag partner Tonga Tom (Real Name Sam Fatu). This movie has a whole list of wrestling action and a rocking fake band called Kick. If you can find it rent it, if not hope the WWE decides to release it. For those of you who are into wrestling trivia, Sam Fatu is related to Umaga (who wrestles today), Yokozuna ( who already passed away years ago), The Rock Dwayne Johnson (Cousins), and the two henchman that work for the Asian guy in this movie (one is a dad, the other a Uncle). This is a comedy about two kids (Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell Smith) who are complete losers at their school. They can't get chicks and certainly can't get laid. Until, they watched a frankenstein movie and decided to create their own woman. Now, to see what Kelly Lebrock looks like in this movie makes you not want to believe what age does to a person. But, she is stunning in her role as Lisa, a woman Hall and Smith Create. Lisa only does what Hall and Smith want her to do, but she takes it upon herself to transform them from losers into the cool kids. And he does a great job fixing up the school and sending the message to kids to stop feeling bad for themselves. Four Out Of Five stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 7:01 PM 0 COMMENTS TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 2009 Tapeheads (1988) Probably one of John Cusack and Tim Robbins lesser known films. These two star as best friends who are practically losers until they get fired from their job and decide to create a music video company. Tim robbins character is very creative, while John Cusack plays the mouth of the duo as he usually does in all of his films. They decide to create a company called Video Aces and soon run into trouble with Norman Mart (played by Clu Gluager) a politcian running for president. Mart soon gets in their way and they decide to savatage his presidential run. The movie has a real funky soundtrack and isn't half bad, but not one of Cusacks best projects he attached his name to. Two Out Of Five Stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 10:45 AM 0 COMMENTS Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) The movie came out 12 years after the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and was pretty darn good. It spawned several more sequels and remakes after this. The movie starts off with a bang a little ways in, when a duo of graduating seniors, decide to call in to a radio station and bother the DJ aptly named stretch( played by Caroline Williams). They decide to play chicken with a oncoming truck and did not realize who they were messing with. Until later on that night, they run into the truck again and it's Leatherface and the duo realize they bit off more than they could chew. Well, Stretch listens to the whole deal and believes it's the Chainsaw crew back to cause trouble. So, she decides to help out a ex Texas Ranger, who lost his nephew to the devilish duo. The Texas Ranger played by Dennis Hopper(Easy Rider & Apocalypse Now) eventually takes up on Stretch's offer and they embark on a journey to hell you will soon not forget. The two guys that make this movie what it is and enjoyable are Bill Johnson as Leatherface and Bill Moseley(The Devils Rejects & House Of 1000 Corpses) as Chop Top. Bill Moseley was absolutely masterful in this movie and strangely comedic in this movie. That was a performance us 80's horror fans will never forget. He gets into a little trouble with William Zabka (The 80's number one jerk) who doesn't approve of Daniel talking to his ex-girlfriend played by Elisabeth Shue. Daniel wants to desperately take karate to defend himself from Zabka's character and walks into the Cobra Kai gym, only to find out Zabka goes there. Five Out Of Five stars POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 6:51 PM 0 COMMENTS Just One Of The Guys (1985) This month we are reviewing a lost gem in 80’s teen comedy “Just One Of The Guys”, starring Joyce Hyser of LA Law fame as a 18 year old aspiring journalist trying to win a contest. She wants to work at the towns local newspaper, but feels that her article was turned down because of the fact she’s a girl. So Terry decides she’s going to go undercover as a boy at a new school to prove her point that men are sexist. This is where we meet the real cast of characters at this new school. This movie features the 1980’s number one bully in William Zabka (who you might remember as the kid that pushes around the karate kid) as Greg Tolan, a bully with a little too much testosterone for his own good . This movie also features Clayton Rohner as Rick ( a guy she befriends) and Billy Jayne as the 15 year old brother struggling with his raging hormones. Together all these characters go on an adventure you will never forget. This movie has everything you want in hot babes, weird clothing styles that you know your parents or older siblings wore, and did I mention hot babes! So rent the movie and find out if Terry gets her way or not. 3 out 5 stars Note: This is the article that showed up in Massasoit's Student Voice Issue for April POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 4:30 PM 0 COMMENTS Class Of 1984 (1982) Before I describe this movie, I must give you some background info on the movie. In 1980, director Mark L. Lester had heard some disturbing facts about violence in America's school systems. He had heard it was a big problem that would affect America's future if not taken care of. So, he decided to write the movie "Class Of 1984" starring Perry King as Teacher Andrew Norris and Timothy Van Patten as King's problem and Gang leader Peter Stegman. The movie also stars Roddy McDowall (Planet Of The Apes and Fright Night Fame) and a very young Michael J. Fox (pre Back To The Future and Teen Wolf) in this epic of the literal term " The Inmates Running The Asylum." Kings character gets a new job at Lincoln High School. It sounds like a good job until he runs into Van Patten who plays a drug dealing student who basically runs amok and does whatever he wants. In this movie, King and Van Patten butt heads and the battle begins. So like I said before this movie was made to warn America and look what has happened to countless schools in the US since 1982. I rate this movie 4 out of 5 stars. POSTED BY THE MONSTER HOUR W/ EDDIE MONSTER AT 3:25 PM 0 COMMENTS Why This?
